Joe Clark dilemma

The recent decisions by Conservative party's leader Joe Clark on his retirement has made many observers think and rethink over the fact of imminence of conservatives for those in the Liberal party. This history to this effect is as old and ancient as the very democratic practices. And no one dare to deny that with out Tories the Liberal would mean anything However, since the last two hundred history has witnessed the leaders of both these parties have been coming and after doing their terms have left the place for their successors. This way many many great leaders could come forward.

To the very announcement of Joe Clark's retirement analysis of the reaction of the Prime Minister Jean Chretien seems meaningful. Shrugging off before the journalists he has in a way showed that Joe Clark's retirement has made our prime minister worried about his own future, a message that many political pundits in his own party were after to be delivered. And that is how like a honest optimist wishing to accomplish yet more horizons the prime minister could come in black and white saying if Joe has left the field he wouldn't. Yes, he is not supposed to because he has still time unto 2004-5 when the election commission will be `busy in referring a new bout.

To various observers politicians and specially leader of the house do often get some ideas from the opposition leader and other heads of the parties in parliament especially when one of them announces his retirement. But for our Prime Minister Joe Clark's retirement was mot a thought provoking development at all and as such he did not get any ideas from it. He has put this in his own words saying that "because they are not Prime Minister. I am the Prime Minister...I am in my third term so I have to carry on my job as Prime Minister..." The reaction that has come from the Prime Minister reflects that he is least concerned with the doing of opposition leader save caring for his own interests in the governance. And of course during all such show of carelessness the pressmen could find him wondering about his own former minister Paul Martin.

Would his ongoing in-party battle with the former finance minister lead him into the hot water soon? This possible future reading has been done more by the New Democrats than the mass media. This is because with the falling popularity of the Liberals and Tories, NDP would like to fill the vacuum on all costs on the opposition or treasury benches. And finding the imbroglio of the troika getting difficult to solve one hopes for a possible emergence of Tony Blair like personality on the horizons of the Liberal? Yes, that is the only way out to deliver what is due of the masses in this country.

Frankly speaking Canadian masses would like better health care, opportunities on the job market, better purchasing power for our shrinking dollar and rule of law. And all this sort of revolution would be possible after a younger committed and prone to deliver leadership emerges on the political board. And that is where ordinary Canadian would be all praise for Joe Clark's decision....
