POST ELECTION 88 PHOBIAS AND WALI KHAN The Constitution: The question and answer session took almost two hours and the message that could be understandably conveyed to the Press was his commitment to his crusade for the cause his party had set before it. In this regard his concern for the doing away with the 1985 constitution amendments under a new spirit of federalism was explained. Changing Tactics: Wali Khan dilated upon Nawaz Sharif like maneuvers in the Punjab province as surprising as for the first time in history a group or coalition has been asking the federal government to restore the rights of Punjab. With such postulations he wanted to prove that the conspiracies against the smaller provinces have been changing tactics and that his party will never allow the smaller units to lose their rights. NWFP Coalition: With respect to the NWFP coalition government, his views were encouraging as with regard to both the parties having a common orientation for the uplift of the province. However, on the inclusion of members from the IJI and the possibilities of a break up of the coalition government in the Province Mr. Wali Khan stated that though Nawaz Sharif wanted a revolt in the NWFP Assembly. And he continued that the local leadership instantly retorted in a tone that would help to stop brewing of such a conspiracy in the future. Afghanistan: His views on the issue of Afghanistan were the commitment to Geneva Accords and encouraging the concerned parties to resolve their dispute in Afghanistan by themselves. He mentioned the consequences of the presence of three million refugees in Pakistan for the last ten years and discussed its implications on our socioeconomic and political environment. The social evils of violence and drug abuse are directly related to such a mass movement of people and to get rid of the situation, Wali Khan asked t government to initiate a long-term plan to resolve the problem arising out of the situation. Anti-US Stance: He also talked about his party's anti US stance stating "We have never opted to be enslaved by the Americans." He lauded the role the ANP has played to do away with the American hegemony.
