Middletown Poetry Circle Volume 11: No. 2 ~ Edited by Circle Member, Bess Miller ~ POETRY CIRCLE CELEBRATES TWELFTH ANNIVERSARY At their February meeting, the Middletown Poetry Circle members celebrated the 12th anniversary of the Poetry Circle. Sandy Gordon was the founder of the Circle and was the president for many years. For this we owe her much thanks. We believe that the Circle has been in existence longer than any other literary group in Middletown at the present time. This is a testimony to the perseverance and dedication of the members who faithfully support this organization. We hope to see if flourish for many more years.
LOOKING AHEAD March 17 is St. Patrick's Day and we will have a wee bit 'o Irish emphasis in our March program on March 12. We will take a look at Blarney Castle and the Blarney Stone-- and, of course, shamrock and a bit about the Book of Kells and maybe "The Lake Isle of Innisfree." Then we will read our original poetry and discuss it as usual. If you have written a poem about Ireland, or you would like to read a poem by a favorite Irish author, it would be most appropriate. April is special for two reasons--at least. It is National Poetry Month and the 22nd of April is Shakespeare's birthday. So--for April a sonnet or two in honor of the Bard would be most fitting. The sonnet could be your original work or a sonnet by Shakespeare or another author. Our April meeting will be April 9, 2008 at the Middletown Public Library in the Community Room-where all meetings are held. Also in April, Roger Keith will be discussing the lives of and reading poetry written by American Native Indians. This promises to be an excellent program. Be sure to come and bring a friend with you. We look forward to seeing you in both March and April.
FIFTH EDITION OF EXPRESSIONS TO BE PUBLISHED Circle member, Roger Keith, is working on Expressions V which will be published soon. This is the fifth anthology of poetry written by circle members. Our members are of various ages and various callings. The poetry in this anthology is as varied as is our membership. It is an interesting exploration to read the different types of poetry and delve into the different subjects that Circle members write about. Roger, thank you so much for doing this--another Poetry Circle anthology. |
