renaissance rag doll Renaissance Rag Doll

One day, I suddenly got an overwhelming urge to try making a doll. I didn't have a pattern, but I was determined.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results. What do you think?

The doll's body was made with unbleached muslin, and her clothes were made with dyed muslin scraps from The Dye Spot, the same place I buy the peasant clothes I wear every year to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire (and is my back-up Halloween costume).

The shirt and hat were designed using basic instructions from the book Elizabethan Costuming by Janet Winter.

Teddy Bear and Baby Blanket

My very first sewing machine projects! I made them as gifts for a friend who was having her first baby.

The blanket is just two pieces of flannel sewn wrong-sides together, turned right-side out, and sewn again.

The bear is made out of the same flannel, using a pattern from Antonette Cely Dolls. I can't say I followed it exactly, but it came out pretty cute.
