At approximately 10:00 a.m., Hawaiian Time (1:00 p.m. PST), Scott and Shannon Johnson touched down at Kahalui Airport in Maui. The five hour flight went by relatively quickly with some napping time, your average airplane food, and a movie (Bicentennial Man). After getting our luggage (uneventful), and obtaining our status quo Rust Orange Neon (also uneventful), we made our way to Kihei and the place we would call home for two weeks, Menahune Shores. That is when the events began.
After dragging all of the luggage up to the 4th floor, we discovered that the lock box on the door that contained the house keys was a new one with a different combination than we anticipated. Scott pulled out his cell phone and started calling everyone we could think of who might be able to let us in. After many calls, a manager was located and your heroes were inside. We did take the time we had while waiting for people to call back to explore the surrounding area and grabbed a bite to eat at Stella Blues.
The weather was not what we hoped it would be for our first day but it wasn't unusual. Overcast, humid, and windy in the afternoon but comfortably warm. We couldn't even see the mountains. But we know that it won't always be that way and we have plenty of good weather ahead of us.
