On Friday, we finally made our way south of Wailea to Makena Beach, AKA Big Beach. This is easily the best beach on the island for just kicking back.

The great thing about this beach is that it is undeveloped. They voted to keep this beach untouched and as a result, you have a long, gorgeous piece of ocean front property that is very relaxing.

Unfortunately, it has a serious shorebreak and not much else as far as waves go. Thus, you always have a short ride if you want to boogie board and you run the risk of being pounded into the sand by a 3-4 foot wave that has nowhere to go but into the ground. Skim boarding seemed to be the way to go. You didn't see many hand-made plywood versions here. Those things are pretty slick.

Another beautiful end to a glorious day.
