Siobhan's Misha Vogt, CDX, CGC, VCCX, Therapy Dog, NRSAT Certified Service Dog |
It All Began with Mish... |
Misha was my first dog and I was very clueless
about dogs and training them back then. I had researched what breed would be
suitable to my lifestyle, but neglected to research the breed I chose. So I wound up
with a very sickly, hyperactive, fearful little Sheltie with no attention span.
Luckily I got him into an obedience class and found 2 wonderful mentors, who helped me
more than they'll ever know. They say everything happens for a reason - the reason
here, I believe, was so Misha could introduce me to the world of dogs and dog activities. After a couple of classes, Misha and I started building a relationship and enjoyed class. We entered an obedience trial not planning on qualifying and wound up taking 3rd place. I was bitten by the competition bug and so Misha and I continued our training and competing. He wound up getting his CDX and was trained through Utility when I had to retire him due to health reasons. We also dabbled in Agility and Flyball, which weren't very popular back then. Misha's obedience training paid off big time when I hurt my back and could barely stand up, let alone walk or do anything else for months. He retrieved items I dropped, picked up his leash and jumped on the couch so I could attach it without bending, etc. |
