Hello cybernauts from all over the world! My name is José Luis Vázquez Jr. I am a Civil Engineer working for the local government in southern México. These are exciting times for me and I would like to
hear from you!
I am a big fan of the X-Files and Millenium. I believe these are two shows that have
managed to break with everything done in the past, so if you are a fan of these
shows do not forget to send me a note. I was also a real enthusiastic Link and
Zelda player (remember the Nintendo games) so I am looking forward for new
editions of the game.
Let me tell you a few words about Chiapas the Mexican State where I live.
Chiapas is located in the southeast of México. It has borders with Belize and Guatemala.
Its climate is tropical and we are
still lucky to have a rainforests although everyday we have less and
less left out of it.
The capital city of Chiapas and the city where I live is called Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
In the pictures below you can see the Governor´s Palace (also known as "La Alcancía").
And just to the side of it crossing the street is St. Mark´s Cathedral, St. Mark is the Protector of the city and
every year we celebrate His day with a big party and events all over the city. Including
Palenques (cock fighting, folkloric music, etc).
Although Tuxtla Gutiérrez is a city with less than a million inhabitants, it has
all the amenities of a capital city. The new Emilio Rabasa theater is one example.
There you can enjoy an evening of performing arts. There is an annual marimba contest
in this theater where marimbas from México and Central America compete.
The marimba is the traditional musical instrument of Chiapas and probably the
most popular song played with it is Las Chiapanecas. You can hear a
fragment of Las Chiapanecas here.
Chiapas is a beautiful place to visit. It has many natural wonders, amongst them is the impressive
Sumidero canyon (see the pictures below). You can hire a motor boat
and navigate the length of the Grijalba river. Your trip will end at the huge concrete curtain of
the Chicoasen dam the fourth tallest dam in the world.
If you travel souther you may visit the archaelogical ruins of Palenque with fabulous temples
and observatories amidst the rainforest. You may also visit a place called
Agua Azul (Blue Water) it is a remarkable place with many falls one on top of
another and all of them crystal blue (hence the name). Another unique place
is called Las lagunas de Montebello (the Montebello´s Lagoons) the site is a
complex of several lagoons and each one has a different color, it is really a
fantastic place to visit.
Here you can see a party organized by the First Lady of the State of Chiapas Ms. Gonzalez,
with her ladies of honor. They are all wearing the typical dress of the State.
This lovely girl belongs to the Folkloric Ballet of Chiapas. She is also wearing the
typical dress of the State. As you can see, the women from Chiapas are quite beautiful
and intelligent too!
One recommendation: if you ever come to visit Chiapas please look for accomodation
in a good hotel. The hotels are very cheap and you can be sure to count with all the comodities
of a big hotel apart from the safety it represents. One other thing: Chiapas is
a tropical State so it is quite warm around here (30-40 Celsius) all year
around, so take that into account if you are planning a visit. Bring some mosquito repellent
as well!
I will update this page frequently so come back again soon! In the mean time
look at my gorgeous girl of the month. Or,
listen to these beautiful midi files.
Visit the Bohemian Corner by Alfredo Vázquez. A place
for the discussion of many different interesting topics. My uncle Alfredo now lives in Canada! read about his experiences in Vancouver, British Columbia.
My father is a collector look at his collection here!
