Art Of
War - My husband's EverCrack Lite guild
MMORPG is a term that has become quickly recognized in the video gaming community. It is short for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It has all but replaced its text-based predecessors of online roleplay. One of the most well-known games of this genre for years was EverQuest, a game that, because of its annoying highly-addictive qualities, I have ranted about for quite some time now. I mean, what's the point of a game with no linear story line or plot whatsoever that offers nothing but endless side quests, right? That's where Square-Enix comes in. Square-Enix (formerly Squaresoft) brought into existence some of my favorite video games of all time, the Final Fantasy series. Offering top-notch storylines, character development, music, and graphics, their games do not disappoint. When they announced that Final Fantasy XI would be online, I was skeptical. I said I would never have the desire to play an MMORPG. But I gave FFXI a chance, and I'm absolutely hooked. The world of Vana'diel is vast, with actual storylines and cutscenes. You don't just endlessly raise character levels and participate in quests. There are three starting cities, with nationality and conflict coming into play throughout the game. There are crafting guilds, fishing, gardening, and an economical system that makes earning money more of the challenge that it should be. Plus, there are celebrations such as holiday and seasonal events. The game developers always strive to keep things different and interesting. New MMORPGs are appearing all the time. Other popular games include The Sims Online, Ultima Online, World of Warcraft, City of Heros, and Star Wars Galaxies. Some upcoming MMORPGs are sort of ironic. The Matrix Online is one, which I think is hilarious, given the fact it's about humans unknowingly existing in an online world. Another is Dungeons and Dragons Online, one of the first ever role playing games, which will now make the jump from tabletop to a digital online entity. Thinking of checking out the world of Vana'diel? Look me up! You can find me on the Siren server. My character's name is Selyne. »
