GH has further information on his ancestry and birthplace.

"After a bit of a recess, I have gone back to the records of St. George Roman Catholic Church of Lessolo, Italy and have trace the family back to the earliest records available. I have a marriage in 1592 of Bernardo CAPRA, the son of Michaellis CAPRA and Caterina the daughter of Bernardi BONARDI. I would estimate Michaellis' birth to be in the 1540s or 1550s. The early records are very difficult to read because the ink bleeds through the pages, it is in old script and in Latin. Those combinations cause it to be very tedious work and I can only deal with it in short stages." (GH to MABH 7 May 2004)
"Bernardo is the great great grandfather of Caroli Josephi CAPRA and Caterina is a second wife. I am still working on this so it is not ready for a "finished state" but it appears that Bernardo's father Michaellis is twelve generations back from you." (GH to MABH 9 May 2004)

"The story of the Jacob Purdy House is a remarkable one indeed. Built about 1721 by Samuel Horton, the house passed to Samuel Purdy in 1730 and remained in the Purdy family almost continually until 1869. Jacob Purdy, Samuel's patriot son, joined the Westchester Militia in 1775 and served until the end of the Revolution, and it is his name that the house bears today. When it was built, the house occupied a site at the base of "Purdy Hill," the hill that Church Street climbs today. It was part of a 132-acre farm. The construction is said to be saltbox type, and originally consisted of a hallway with two ground floor rooms to the right and two smaller rooms to the left. An addition in about 1750 expanded the house, creating a separate kitchen and parlor. It was this simple abode that General George Washington used as his headquarters during the Battle of White Plains in 1776 and again during his second stay here for two months in 1778." (From: "The Jacob Purdy House," by Elaine Massena, http://www.whiteplainswatch.com/A55866/wpw.nsf/All/Jacob+Purdy+House).
