Articles: RP: Spelling & Grammar

Here are some general guidelines to achieving good spelling and grammar:

1. No shorthand or smilies

e.g. tbh, imo, :P, :)

2. Don't confuse between

  • 'there' and 'their'
'There' is used when you are describing a location, e.g. she is standing there, it's there (it is there, not here).
'Their' is used when youre trying to say something belongs to 'them', e.g. their swords are very sharp, its theirs (it belongs to them).
  • 'its' and 'it's'
'Its' is used to say that something belongs to an animal, e.g. its sleek fur, its teeth are sharp.
'It's' is a contraction (short form) of 'it is'. So you would say 'it's pretty', but not 'its pretty'. Likewise, you would not say 'it's tail',
    but 'its tail'.

3. Put apostrophes in the right place

You need apostrophes when you say something belongs to something or someone, e.g. Wendy's skirt, the horse's shoe. When it is plural, or when the noun/name ends with an 's', put in the apostrophe, but not an extra's', e.g. two snakes' eggs, Augustus' belt.

Only abbreviations require apostrophes when you are saying the plural form of a noun, e.g. one PoV, many PoVs (one point of view, many points of view). It is not 'toe's', but 'toes', since 'toe' is not an abbreviation.

Verbs never require a ' before the s. So it would be 'she sees', and not 'she see's'.

4. Don't forget to check your tenses!

5. It's Camaar, not Cammar or Camarr (Adventurers, please get it right!)

6. Capitalise the race names, e.g. Murgo, not murgo
