Legions of Neutral
It was becoming dark, which was hampering my running quite a bit. "Who left these bricks around the edge of the road?" I grumbled to myself. It was meant to be a simple piece of robbery, yet now I was running to save my life from the guards.
It had all started around ten minutes ago - I thought as it was a crowded marketplace and it wouldn't be difficult. Or so I'd thought. The merchant I'd chosen wasn't as asleep as I'd hoped and his cry of 'Thief!' startled the entire square. The guards had seen me running from the scene and had given immediate pursuit.
My pace slowed slightly and suddenly without warning an arm shot out of an alleyway and dragged me into it. There was a hooded man standing there and I began to twitch nervously.
"I see you're not quite adept at thievery just yet,” he said.
"Uh...no I guess not" I stammered.
"Hmm well I've seen you around before and you do show some promise I have to say,” he continued. "How about you get some better training - I really do think you have the makings of a decent thief, as long as you don't get hung."
In normal circumstances I would have probed his motives further, yet the guards were getting closer and it wasn't such an unattractive proposition really.
"Sure, anything to get me away from that mob" I said, hiking a thumb over my shoulder.
"Right, then follow me and be quiet."
He moved to the end of the alley and pushed a few of the bricks. A part of the wall slid back noiselessly and I followed him. The wall slid back and the sounds of the guards drifted away.
"So where exactly am I going?" I asked a bit more apprehensively now.
"You are now a member of the Legions of Neutral" was the reply back.
