Joining Adventurers

Devavrata was making his way to Val Alorn, taking his time as usual. The day had started off very sunny, yet now the storm clouds were gathering. He was wondering where to take shelter. He started looking at his surrounds more carefully. Suddenly up ahead, he noticed a thin spiral of smoke reaching above the trees. Wondering who it was, and also looking forward to the comfort of a warm fire, he nudged his horse towards it.
As he went closer, he saw a figure leaning over the fire, tending it. He called out and the man turned around and responded with a friendly wave. The man had a wild boar roasting over the fire and from it he cut a large chunk. He handed this over to Devavrata, who gratefully accepted it. As the night wore on, he talked with the man. He said he was an “Adventurer” and he was part of a clan. The purpose of the clan, he explained, was to help people, either by educating them, or rescuing them if they were in distress.
To Devavrata, this was really an eye opener. From a young age, he had merely learnt to fend for himself, and had never bothered to think about others. As the man told more stories about the clan, and the many and varied members within, Devavrata felt more and more that this was what he wanted to do. Suddenly he noticed that the man had grown silent. Making up his mind quickly, he asked the man how to join the clan.
“Simple, come with me and I shall make you a member.” he said, beginning a new part of Devavrata's life.

It was a cold rainy day when Devavrata wandered into Floyd's room. He looked at the ancient looking questmaster and wandered towards him.
"So what do you have for me today, old man?" he asked.
"Devavrata!" Floyd replied, "I have been waiting for someone to do this. You need to go and see a Nadrak Tradesman in Yar Gurak. He can be found at the Mining Shop. Hurry, for he is in great need."
Wearily standing up, Devavrata turned towards the door and thought about the quickest path to Yar Gurak. He walked out towards the east gate of Sendar and pulled his cloak tighter to keep off the rain.
The trip was uneventful to say the least - he hardly saw anyone en route. A few days later, he rode into Yar Gurak. He remembered the shop from last time he went through the town - the Tradesman had overcharged him as usual.
"I'll make it worth his while this time though" he muttered as he entered the shop.
"Hello in the shop" he said. "Floyd said you have a job that required doing."
The tradesman looked him over and decided that this burly Cherek wasn't attempting to steal anything. "That’s right. I need a letter delivered to the healer in Annath. Its very important he gets it within the next week."
Devavrata sighed. This was certainly not the sort of assignment he was looking for, but at least this gave him an opportunity to see more of the world. He reached out and took the letter proffered by the Nadrak and left the shop. His horse looked tired, so he decided to rest the night at the nearby tavern. The next day he left Yar Gurak and headed towards Annath, a trip that would take him a few days.
When he reached Annath, he visited Kili, the weaponsmith.
"Good morning Master smith" he said as he ducked his head and entered the shop. It was warm inside, and he felt much better. He headed towards the forge, where a man was hammering away at a suit of armour.
"Hello there," replied the smith. "Fancy some work on your equipment?"
"Actually I was wondering if you could direct me towards your church," said Devavrata.
"Of course. Just head towards the centre of town and its near the north part of the town. Are you sure you don't need some of that armour repaired? It’s looking quite worn."
"No thank you, not at the moment, although when I have performed my quest I might come back. Thank you for your help though."
Devavrata headed towards the town centre and followed Kili's directions. The church was a rather small one, with only a single room, and a healer stood within, along with a young girl. He waited for the priest to finish and once the girl left he went inside.
"What can I do for you, my son?" asked the frail man.
"I have a letter from a tradesman in Yar Gurak," replied Devavrata, "He said it was of importance and must reach you within the week." He put his hand inside his pouch and pulled out the letter.
"Ah yes, thank you very much" said the healer. "I'm sure the tradesman will reward you handsomely for this if you return to him."
Devavrata groaned inwardly at the thought of riding all the way back to Yar Gurak, but he agreed with the priest and left the church. His eyes brightened as he noticed a tavern and he decided that he had earned a rest.
The next day he left Annath, heading towards Yar Gurak. The ride was slow, as he took his time going back. He reached the shop ten days after he left Annath, and he was feeling a bit saddle-sore as he dismounted.
"Ah, it's you,” said the tradesman.
"Yes, and I have finished the task. The healer seemed pleased to receive the letter" Devavrata said.
"Well, as promised, here is your reward" said the tradesman, as he handed over a pouch.
Devavrata grabbed the pouch eagerly, and as he looked inside, he thought about the weapon smith and decided that it was about time he got himself some new weapons and armour.

Joining Merchants
It was a warm autumn day in Boktor and the streets of the town were fairly bustling with people. Amidst the throng, I made my way carefully to the city square. I could smell the beef from the tavern nearby, as well as the ever present waft of ale. The square was also busy, with the Jeweler's shop seeming like it was making good business. As I was walking towards the
Blacksmiths, I espied a familiar figure entering a building nearby.
"Athawe!" I yelled above the din. She paused and turned around quickly. I waved to her and ran across. "Hello Athawe, I haven't seen you for a long time" I said.
"Dev! It has been a while hasn't it?" she said, wearing a broad grin.
"Yeah, when did I last see you? Sometime when we were in Adventurer's wasn't it?" I said, reminiscing about our past.
"That sounds about right" she said.
"So what have you been up to since then?"
"Well do you remember Czrel and Reidia from Adventurer's also?" she asked.
"Reidia, I remember her alright and Czrel...hmm, little Drasnian guy wasn't he?"
"Yeah that’s him" said Athawe. "The three of us along with Maldrek, a Nadrak we know created a clan of ours here in Boktor itself."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, we're the Merchants" she said, proudly showing off her clan ensign. "Do you want to come and meet them again?" she asked.
"Sure, it'll be nice to catch up with them" I said.
She nodded at the Nadrak guard, who quickly opened the door. This was obviously the Merchants guild, and it seemed to me to be situated in a highly appropriate place - right in the busy centre of Boktor. I followed Athawe inside and she led me to a central hall. I noticed there were quite a few other members of the Merchants clan within.
"Athawe!" I heard a voice coming from a corner of the room.
"Rei!" she replied back. "And look who I just ran into!" she said pointing at me.
"Why if it isn't Devavrata" exclaimed Reidia.
"Hiya Rei" I said, grinning. It felt good being amongst old friends again.
After a while Czrel joined us and we all had a chat about what we had all been up to since the last time I saw them. Maldrek also dropped by and I was introduced to him as well. We had lunch and then Czrel graciously offered me a place to rest for a while.
"So Dev, what are your plans for the future?" asked Reidia later that evening.
"I'm not sure Rei, I was just passing through Boktor and seeing what was happening since I was last here some months ago." I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"Well, the four of us were just talking, and seeing as we would like to expand our clan a bit, how would you like to join us in being a Merchant?"
"Wow, that was pretty quick Rei" I said.
"Yeah, but since we know you pretty well..." she said, grinning.
"I would love to join!" I exclaimed. "Since you all seem to be doing so well it can't be too bad a life,” I added, jokingly.
"Well" chimed in Czrel, "I'd have to say its pretty rewarding, if you have the nous for it. Well in any case, Dev, welcome to the Merchants!
