Raul Boesel will start the 86th running of the Indy 500 on the front row after burning an average speed of 230.613 today.  Substituting for the injured P. J. Jones, Raul only had a few days to get comfortable in the car, but brought it up to speed quickly for Team Owner John Menard.  A very emotional Boesel was interviewed after his qualifying effort.  Congratulations Raul, from all of your fans around the world.  We knew you had it in you!  Now, let's see you win this race!
Monday, May 21, 2001 -
Treadway Racing announced today that Felipe Giaffone will replace Raul at the Indianapolis 500 race on Sunday.  Giaffone was bumped from the field on May 20th with his qualifying time of 221.100.  He was unable to re-qualify during the final 17 minutes yesterday and will take the last spot on the starting grid.  Raul took the news in stride but speaking for his fans, this is a great disappointment.
Sunday, May 20, 2001 - Raul bumped his way into the field for the Indianapolis 500 with a four-lap qualfiying average of 221.879. Raul had little seat time, with only two days of practice in the Treadway Motorsports Meijer G Force Oldsmobile. Raul will start in p. 31 on row eleven on Sunday. As always, the best of luck to Raul from his fans all over the world!
Sunday, May 28, 2000 -
Raul started the 84th Indy 500 in p. 24 and at one point advanced to p. 12, but a misfire in his engine at the mid-way point caused him to finish in p. 16. Raul has a hard-earned reputation of finishing his races, and he managed to nurse his engine to the finish. Race winner Juan Montoya dominated the race, leading 167 of 200 laps. There will be other Indy 500 races for Raul, and his victory will have to wait for another day. On behalf of all your fans around the world, good job Raul! We are very proud of you!
Thursday, May 25, 2000 - Raul looked sharp at Carburetion Day, the last chance for perfecting the car before the big race on Sunday. Raul was 4th fastest and posted a top speed of 217.303 mph during his 35-lap run. With his competitive car, this seems to be Raul's best opportunity in many years for a top finish at Indy. I know that all of his fans would love to see that happen!
Sunday, May 21, 2000- Raul wasted no time today as he qualified for the 84th Indy 500. He was the first person to attempt to qualify and posted a four-lap average speed of 222.113 mph. WOW! His time was the 7th fastest of all qualifiers and he will start in the 8th row in p. 24. Great job Raul!!
Saturday, May 20, 2000 - Treadway Racing waived off Raul's first qualifying attempt today when he only reached an average speed of 218.296 after taking three practice laps. Raul attemped another run in the final minutes of qualifying today but called it off after taking two warm-up laps. Raul will have two more opportunities to qualify for the field tomorrow on Bubble Day. Best of luck to Raul!!
Friday, May 19, 2000 - Raul found more speed today, increasing to 219.791 on lap 71 of his 75 practice laps. Hopefully, he can find just a little more speed for tomorrow's qualifying run.
Thursday, May 18, 2000 - Raul finally got on track today to practice for the 84th Indy 500. His top speed was 215.912 and he had a good run of 37 laps.
Tuesday, May 16, 2000 - In case you've been checking the speed charts for Indy practice and have not seen Raul listed, fear not! His car was just delivered today and hopefully, he'll be on the track in a day or two. ESPN2 had a nice interview with him today and he sounded very confident.
Saturday, May 13, 2000 - Finally I have some great news! Treadway Racing announced yesterday that Raul will pilot their G-Force Aurora on May 28th at the 84th running of the Indianapolis 500. As you all may know by now, Raul has been unable to secure a full-time ride in either CART or the IRL this year and is now driving a Superboat in the Offshore racing series. We wish the best to Raul in his quest for a victory at Indy!! |
