EVOLUTION STAGE 2 ---20R/22R HYBRID--- 15.90 SEC 1/4 MILE 150 HP
Hello? Can you say INDUCTION? You're looking down the barrels of sidedraft
Mikuni 44mm carbs which feed a ported head through 22r valves actuated by
a Schneider 270 degree cam. The forged pistons bring the compression to
10.3:1. The Doug Thorley header resides on the other side of the engine
and a Centerforce II couples to a 5-speed.
Who in their right mind would paint an engine block WHITE??? I've regretted
it since then, but it looked pretty for quite a while.
.
It's got urethane bushings throughout the suspension, stiffer springs in front
and chopped stock springs in the rear. The urethane bushings tighten the
rear so much that I've had to remove the rear swaybar and install one on
the front. It has a bit of negative camber in front thanks to relocated
lower control arms. The November 1975 issue of Car&Driver details the
procedure.
It has done well in slalom racing when I get the chance to race.
I ride in Corolla GTS seats and throw a Hurst shift knob... Cool huh?
On with the evolution... The 20R/22R hybrid eventually found its way into my work truck and the Celica was equipped with a 1974 vintage 18RG-U.
