September 1969: Introduction of the Renault 12 L and TL R1170
April 1970: Seatbelts at frontseats

1971
September 1970: Introduction of the break version R1330
Introduction of the R12 Gordini, with 1565 cm3 engine with 83 kW and a top speed of 185 km/h

1972
Alternator instead of dynamo
Suppression of parking lights/indicators on front wings

1973
New Vasarely logo
Possibility to install seatbelts at rear seats
Handbrake between frontseats instead of under dashboard and to make this possible, the frontseats are now separated instead of one bench
Break gets servo assisted brakes
Introduction of TS model

1974
Introduction of TR berline with automatic gearbox
Break can be ordered with TS engine
New iodine headlights for TS

1975
Introduction of the break LN and TN, different in equipment (the latter is better equiped)
Emergency indicators fitted on all models
R12 Gordini discontinued

1976
Facelift: New grille, new big rearlights, new front and rear bumper. The interior has been redesigned also: new dashboard, new four-spoke steering wheel. L model keeps old dash for another year. New seats for TS and Automatic.

1977
Check light for brake system
Safetybelts at front seats now with automatic retractor mechanism

1978
Rear window wash/wiper becomes an option on the break
Dual circuit brakes on all models

1979
 

1980
End of French production of the R12

Production is continued in Argentinia (until 1994) and Turkey (until 1999). In Romania the R12 is built, since 1969 by Dacia. This car is sold in other countries, including Western Europe since 1977.
