Millésimes Renault 20 and 30

Changes made to the R20 and R30 over the years
1975
March 1975: Introduction of the R30 TS

1976
November 1975: Introduction of the R20 L, TL and GTL with the 1647cc 90 bhp engine, standard four speed gearbox, non-assisted steering, front discs and rear drums. The cosmetic difference between these models and the R30 TS is that they have two rectangular headlamps instead of four round ones. They also have manual windows and cloth seats. The TL adds reclining front seats, and the GTL adds front seat head rests.

June 1976: Revisions: new door handles, fuel filler cap and instrument panel.

1977

1978
August 1977: Introduction of the 20 TS with all-new 2.0 litre J series engine (with 110 HP), five-speed manual or three-speed automatic gearbox, power-assisted steering and equipment similar to the 30 TS but still with two rectangular headlamps

1979
October 1978: Introduction of the 30 TX with the same 2.7 litre V6 engine as the 30 TS but with K-Jetronic fuel injection (which resulted in an output of 142 HP!). The TX also had a choice of five-speed manual or three-speed automatic gearboxes and all the other mechanical specifications of the 30 TS. The equipment level on the TX was also a good bit higher than on the TS with criss-cross alloy wheels, additional exterrior brightwork, rear spoiler, electric sunroof, headlamp wash/wipe, electric front and rear windows, air conditioning, cruise control, rev limiter (an unecessary item), and a 'lights on' warning computer system. Leather upholstery was a £350 option.

1980
August 1979: Introduction of the 20 LS with the mechanicals of the 20 TS but the same equipment of the 20 TL.

December 1979: Introduction of the 20 TD and GTD with the 2.1-litre (66 HP) diesel engine, five-speed gearbox. The TD had the same equipment as the TL, and the GTD had the same equipment as the TS.

March 1980: Introduction of the 30 Turbo Diesel with the same 2.1-litre diesel engine as the 20 diesel, plus the Garret turbo (resulting in an output of 88 HP). Equipment was much the same as the 30 TX.

1981
Face lift: new interior, dashboard

1982
August 1980: Introduction of the 20 TX, similar to the 20 TS but with the 2.2-litre (115 bhp) engine. Additional equipment includes alloy wheels and cruise control.

January 1981: Range reduced to: R20 TS, R20 GTD, R20 TX, R30 Turbo Diesel and R30 TX.

January 1982: Revisions to the R20: GTD and TX have rear spoiler; GTD and TS have revised gear ratios; TX has headlamp washers.

1983

1984
July 1984: Last remaining models discontinued.
