Mint Dill   ~ Dakka ~   Bayleaves Rosemary

(Spicy Tomato Sauce)

This sauce is usually very hot and spicy but you can season it to your taste. It is for use with Koshary (Rice & Black Lentil Dish). It will be featured under Rice & Pasta.

~ Ingredients ~
1 cup tomato juice
2 tbsp shortening
¼ cup white vinegar
1 cup water
salt & pepper to taste
½ tsp paprika (optional)

In a pan, heat shortening than add tomato juice. Leave to simmer half covered on medium heat for 10-15 minutes. Add water gradually and bring to boil. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Serve in a sauce bowl. Use as directed in recipes.
Yields 2 cups.
