After many long nights the cell started to develop and the question of were to put the finished pump after final assembly arose. Different solutions were discussed within the group and the alternatives varied from just putting the pump in a box with the Motoman robot, to trying to get it outside the cell in some more flashy way. Remembering our product goal to manly use industrial solutions, the decition finaly landed on a airpreassure driven package-slide. The slide is constructed from a large metallsheet. The sides on the slide all have a slope so that the packageplate allways can slide into place, even if it is not compleately straight. The package is held into place by a small sloping piece of metall who appears thru a small hole in the slideplate. The stop-pin is attached to the bottom of the fixture. When the package is to be released, the large airpreassure cylinder attached to top of the slide pushes up the slide and the finished product slides out from the cell on the Superslide to the package and shipping station. When deciding on which form of packaging fixture to use in the cell, one of the goals was not to interrupt the main flow of the cell. For beeing able to do this it was nessessary to try to get the finished pump out from the cell without using the robots. If this was possible, the robots could start to produce and assembly a new pump immedeately after the previous one was finished. With the slide solution, this was possible to achive. |
