The Writing Process My initial idea with "Yoshi's Heroes" was going to adapt a sitcom-styled formula. The story would've been about the character of Yoshi, a Japanese-American, and his adventures in 1943 getting kicked out of various internment camps; each camp would be styled after various sitcoms throughout television history, such as "Ozzie and Harriet," and later, shows like "Seinfeld." After this idea, two things happened: One: I realized that the idea sucked. Two: I started to do research. |

Research My father and I went to an Internment camp exhibit in Chicago, where I not only saw various models and artifacts, but got to meet several people who had been in relocation camps (and, in a few cases, had been concieved in them). Here's the thing to understand: none of the people I met seem heavily guarded, or unwilling to talk, or bitter. |
