Muluken Melesse is truly one of the jewels in the crown of Ethiopian music. When I was working in Ethiopian night clubs, he was one of the singers I most respected and admired. He brought a unique energy and excitement to the music, and his creativity served to inspire many who followed in his footsteps, including, and perhaps most notably, Tewodros Tadesse. Muluken chose to give up his musical career for religious reasons; his conviction is admirable. He continues to participate in a church singing group so the world is still blessed with his voice and for that, I am grateful . Still , many of us sorely miss his contributions to the Ethiopian music scene and continue to listen to his old recordings, and remember his incredible talent.
