General Guidelines (top)
These rules are in place to help keep interaction of our members pleasant and welcoming. As long as you follow the rules and your own common sense, we should have no problems.
If there comes a time to address any rule breaking, one of the Council may issue a warning and/or suspend the offending member. In extreme cases, a member may be permanently banned. It is asked that if at any time the Council should ask you to refrain from certain activities, to please adhere to their requests and not become defensive and/or confrontational, as that will only make matters worse.
If some form of discipline has been enacted and you feel it was unjustly applied, you may take the matter up with the guild head in the form of a formal complaint. Any decision made by the guild head, after reviewing the matter, will be final.
New Members (top)
Since this guild was created for The Geek Forum members only, persons interested in obtaining an invite to this guild must be registered forum members of no less than one week and have posted at least 5 non-spammy messages in the forum, with at least one of those being in the Neopets Forum. This rule is in place to encourage newcomers to devote some of their time in getting to know the forum and its members before expecting to become a part of our guild.
Newly inducted members will need to be in the guild for a minimum of a week and have posted 10 non-spammy posts in the Guild Message Board (the latter is alleviated for those with restricted accounts), before they are eligible to receive their initial rank promotion. It is expected that a new member introduce themselves on the Guild Message Board (or the Guild Forum, if they have a restricted account) and is visibly active. A member is viewed as being visibly active if they regularly participate in the guild message board, post guild forum and otherwise contribute to the growth and support of the guild.
Member Conduct (top)
Members are expected to treat one another with due respect. Any guild privileges granted should not be abused.
Rank Promotions (top)
For the most part, promotions are based on activity and length of time in the guild. We encourage and reward members for both, not only through ranks but also eligibility for gifts, etc. For a more detailed explanation of each rank, please visit the Members page.
Rank changes are made either at the time a promotion is due, such as new members meeting their intial requirements for promotion, or at the first of the month when a general review of the guild is made by the guild head to make updates reflecting current member status, etc.
Message Board (top)
No Spamming or Unfavorable Messages - It is asked that you keep your messages informative and/or substantial, useful and friendly. Posting short, pointless, annoying messages, or simply posting the same thing over and over, is expressly discouraged. Do not post cheats, exploits, disrespectful or abusive messages, or attempts to hack or scam. Swearing is not permitted, nor is the use of other characters in attempt to disguise swear words.
Limited Advertising - Members are asked to promote their Shops, Galleries, Beauty Contests, Trades and Auctions no more than once a day. Do not advertise any other guilds.
No begging - Members are expected to refrain from begging fellow guildmates for items or neopoints, either in the message board or via NeoMail. Asking for help in finding particular items, such as for a quest, is permitted though.
Readable Text - Members are expected to keep their posts readable and gentle on the eyes. This would include not using excessive letter size, color or abbreviations, d00d or l33t speak, or ALL CAPS.
Family oriented discussions - Members should keep in mind that the guild consists of a wide range of ages, nationalities, backgrounds, etc. Therefore it is asked that members stick with topics of discussion that are non-controversial. Do not bring up discussions over religion, politics, ranks or "adult" topics.
Member Disputes - Any dispute between two or more members is to be kept off the message board. It is expected that members handle their issues privately or they may consult with a Council member for advice and/or mediation.
Restricted Accounts - Those members who have a restricted account, due to their age, are required to utilize the private message system of the Guild Forum as their primary method of communicating any sensative guild matters to the guild Council.
Guild Forum - While members, who are able, are expected to participate in the Guild Message Board, those who also make use of the Guild Forum are still expected to follow these rules and those found in the Neopets Forum in general.
Quitting/Expulsion (top)
Members who decide to quit the guild, for whatever reason, or are forcibly removed from the guild due to their continual disruption of whatever sort will not receive another guild invitation. This guild is not to be treated lightly or otherwise abused. We expect our members to be serious in their commitment to the guild and one another in general.
Lost Geeks (top)
Lost Geeks who have a "Last Spotted" status of 100 days or more will be removed from the guild. While we understand that members have lives outside the guild and Neopets, the guild is meant to be a place for active players to gather. If a member, for whatever reason, hasn't even logged in for 3+ months, it seems safe to assume that the member has no immediate intension of actively participating in the guild or Neopets in general.
Members who are removed for lengthy abscences will be notified via forum pm and of course will be permitted to re-apply for membership when/if they become active on Neopets again.
