At a press conference earlier this week Galway theatre group MorWax proudly
announced that their latest big-screen adaptation for the stage would be the Jerry
Bruckheimer classic Con Air. Amid much pomp and ceremony a MorWax
representative informed the large presence of journalists that after much
consultation and renting from 2001 Video Library they had decided on the high
action Nicholas Cage vehicle.
"It was a tight call between The Matrix and Con Air for our next project but
Bruckheimer is such a master we thought it high time we brought his magic to
the Town Hall Theatre. This film is perfect for the stage. We really can't believe
nobody's adapted it already." The MorWax representative shielded his eyes
momentarily from the blinding flash of dozens of cameras before continuing.
"There should be more films on stage we feel. Adaptation of films really is a
valid form of theatre and not one bit lazy or unimaginative."
When pressed about the more extravagant parts of the film, the plane crashes,
explosions and heavy use of automatic weapons the representative shrugged and
replied "Ah we'll probably do some shit with papier-mache or just project them
scenes straight from a DVD."
Long live the legitimate theatre!
