Renowned troubadour Richie Kavanagh is back, due to popular demand. His comeback tour,
simply entitled 'Call me Dick' will hit Galway in June and is set to sell out quickly. Richie first
came to prominence with the seminal "Aon Focal Eile". He followed the success of this with a
string of similar singles showing he truly had his finger on the pulse of contemporary Ireland.
The insightful "My Girlfriend's got a Mobile Phone" caught the public's imagination and really
captured in a microcosm the emergence of Celtic Tiger Ireland.
Unfortunately those stars who burn the brightest also burn out the quickest and Richie's lauded
first album was always going to be a challenge to follow. "How's Your Whole…Family?", the
first single off the second album was well received by his adoring fans but panned by the critics.
This led to Richie suffering what many thought to be a nervous breakdown. He began dressing
very strangely, abandoning his trademark dungarees and cap for slacks and non-novelty shirts.
He seemed to slip quietly away into the masses in stark contrast to how he had loudly burst into
our hearts all those years ago.
This is all due to change however with Richie's triumphant return. And word on the street is that
he's better than ever. Some have likened the show to Madonna's reinvention tour but with more livestock and less angular
undergarments. His new single "I've Got a Big Cock, Cock, Cock-A-Doodle-Do" is already a hit on the live circuit where Richie
is purported to strip down to his boxers and pull a live cock out of his pants. What a showman!
Richie Kavanagh plays The Black Box June 13th-17th. Get your tickets today for one of the greatest shows on earth.
