SYNOPSIS:
Industry bitch Reggie Taylor meets singing housekeeper Kari.
After a brief misunderstanding, bliss ensues.
NANCY:
*Snicker* Ewok, you make her sound like a singing birthday telegram
or something!
EWOK:
I feel cheated! I've got to get some joy out of it, and a singing uberGab telegram would sure hit the spot.
I actually really enjoyed the first part of the story. I thought we were up for a "When Harry Met Sally..." bickerfest in fine style. But then, after one round of apologies, it's all soppiness and soulmates till the candles come out.
NANCY:
I disagree. I think as I was reading it I was thinking in terms of Accidental Love, how after the big fight was over there was no more fight left in the characters, but here I think the whole point was that the characters kept their sense of humour and stayed *in character*! It wasn't a complete capitulation.
EWOK:
Well sure, if you put it in terms of *that* ...
NANCY:

I do agree though that the story would have been improved had a few more conflicts been introduced. Also, fleshing out the supporting characters a bit more would help too. Let's not forget that wallpaper might just be something that hangs on the walls, but people still notice if it's boring.
EWOK:
There just wasn't enough to it. I was looking forward to MORE, and there wasn't any...
*pause*
*stricken look*
My God. Nancy. We're asking for a longer story. What's happening to us?
NANCY:
Hey, I did NOT ask for a longer story, I just want what there is to
be a little more complex. Although I've reconsidered my request for fleshing out the support characters. If I remember rightly, we were given enough descriptions of their muscled flesh! *g*
You know what scene I really liked? I loved the BBQ scene and the whole idea of hanging out in the backyard with muso types who play cool games like "sing the oldest song you know". Then there was this line just before that:
excerpt:
"You can not imagine. I have never seen her like that. I've only known her like a year, but shit. She was fit to be tied up and spanked hard."
"Quite a mental picture you are giving me there. Thanks."
I got this real feeling of atmosphere from the whole bit. The fun, the flirtation ... makes you feel almost drunk and giddy reading it.

EWOK:

Patsy Cline, atmosphere and singalongs notwithstanding, I'm NOT forgiving this bard for getting that godDAMN LeAnn Rimes song stuck in my head...
NANCY:
Personally I expected them to break into a chorus of "I'm an old
cowhand, from the Rio Grande..." just to add a nice Lucy Lawless link!
EWOK:
You'd like that, wouldn't you?
NANCY:
Hey, ANY link to the Flawless One is not to be sneezed at. *sigh*
EWOK:
7 out of 10, give or take a point.
NANCY:
I'm giving it 7.5. It was as good as, if not better than, some of the stories I've read that have taken twice as long to get to the same point.
