Into her life strolls the wild and dangerous outlaw Jess Chambers, and the two begin an affair that will ultimately fulfill both their destinies. NANCY: You into westerns? This is an oldie, but I've never read it before... EWOK: Not *an* oldie. THE oldie. *whistling high noon theme* And I read it about a year ago... it's about as deep as Accidental Love, but perhaps not quite as painful, since it is a western ... oh, harsh Ewok. *slapping face with both paws* NANCY: Heh. But hey, the cool thing about these stories that were written back in the beginnings of uber is that you can't say they suffer from overused cliche, since the cliches didn't exist back then. (Of course, you could always blame these early stories for *creating* the cliche! *g*) EWOK: Get in first! Beat the rush! Invent the cliche! Having said that, I don't think you can write a western without being at least a little tongue in cheek, "Unforgiven" (and duelling banjos) notwithstanding. NANCY: But this one takes itself too seriously you mean? I don't know...I'll admit to a prejudice, I hate Westerns in general. Movies, books, country music *g* whatever. I started reading this thinking I would get bored. But I didn't, I really like it. There's something fresh about it, like it might be a little too serious, but it isn't trying too hard. It's almost like a Xena parable or something, it follows the backstory that well. EWOK: ... and yet I keep feeling as though I'm watching "The Young Riders". NANCY: Xena - Young riders crossover. Yeah, that could work *g* EWOK: Louise uberGabby McCleod? With The Kid as Joxer. I like it. NANCY: I’m thinking more along the lines of Lucy Lawless with chaps and a six shooter... YUM! OTOH, that makes it sound like a bad porno film! EWOK: With six chaps? You're right; that does sound like a bad porno... NANCY: *GROAN* Hey Ewok, is reviewing the first uber ever posted the same as reviewing Lord of the Rings, or Star Trek: The Original Series? EWOK: Perhaps if we'd reviewed it fast enough, it would never have spread... NANCY: HEY! *glares* NANCY: Deserves a place amongst the classics, though not necessarily amongst the greats. 7/10. EWOK: 6.5/10
