BI PRIDE AUSTRALIA

MEDIA RELEASE

July 7th 2005

BISEXUAL CONCERN OVER RESEARCH CLAIM

Bi Pride Australia, the Bisexual community's peak lobby group, today
expressed grave concern over a researcher's claim that true male
bisexuality doesn't exist.

Spokesperson Les Davidson said the study failed to recognise there are
many factors which define a person's sexual orientation not just arousal.

"Social and emotional attraction are also essential ingredients that
contribute to appeal. The claim by senior author of the research, Dr. J.
Michael Bailey, that arousal defines men's orientation and attraction
suggest he believes men are incapable of an emotional connection with
another human being."

Spokesperson Jen Van-Achteren commented, "Many bisexuals struggle
to find their place in the world, where they find themselves rendered invisible
most of the time by a society that seeks to define our sexuality by the gender
of our partner. To have our very existence negated by crude and
questionable research only makes life more difficult, even dangerous."

"There is plenty of research, conducted by people such as Dr. Alfred
Kinsey and Dr. Fritz Klein, which supports the existence and legitimacy of
bisexuality as a valid orientation. It would be appropriate for the media
to present a balanced view."

Van-Achteren on 0401 054 003.
