A 303 is being used as depot shunter at Shields, it is thought to be either 001 or 004. Rumours going around include one that 001 or 004 will be sent to Boness in its refurbished state in place of 032 which has suffered accident damage at Immingham.

30.12.02

The 303s are now withdrawn. 303011+303088 brought 42 years of 303 operation to an end today with the special journey from Bellgrove to Helensburgh Central. Leaving Bellgrove, a packed train of mourners watched the curtian come down on the stars of the SPT area. Folowing the last run the train returned to Dalmuir and then ECS to Yoker where at 12.10 88 and 11 coupled to 43 and then the pantograph was lowered for the last time. 1 and 4 however were later noted at Shields with their pantos still up and the coach lights still on.

303020, 303027 and 303045 will go to Immingham on Friday for Scrapping.

Due to problems with the 334s in the Yoker Depot the 303s will remain in operation till March

There are 6 class 303's left in service at present. These are 303001,3,4,11,43,88.

303011,88,43,4 have been in service on the Argyle Line in the past few days.

303032 for Preservation

303032 will become the first and only 303 to be preserved. It is currently at Immingham Railfreight terminal being checked over to see if it has any asbestos. If it is given the all clear then it will be sent to the SRPS at Boness to allow them to restore it for future generations to enjoy.
