About Kyokushin Karate

Throughout the world, Kyokushin Karate is regarded as the “Strongest Karate”. The art was created by the late grandmaster; Sosai Mas Oyama (1923-1994) who created the largest Karate organisation under one person – over 12 million members internationally. Kancho Shokei Matsui 8th Dan is the head of the organisation and is based in Japan.

The Napier and Hastings Kyokushin Karate Clubs are members of the New Zealand Branch of the International  Karate Organisation Kyokushinkaikan headed by Shihan Bob McCallum 6th Dan.  The New Zealand Branch is part of an international organisation of over 120 countries and 171 International branches. There are 363 Kyokushin Dojo’s (clubs) in Japan alone.

All black belt instructors are registered in Japan and recognized internationally. This means students are welcome at tournaments and clubs (dojo’s) all over the world.
