Chicago, a show with action, marvelous dancing, singing like you have rarely heard it before and a cast that is more than professional. I saw the show here, in Hong Kong with the australian cast, twice and I thought the leads were very good but I was more impressed when I saw the boys dancing. I thought that Adam Williams as "Harry" was awesome, his moves and his voice have totaly left me speechless and I regard him as my idol now. So everyone was awesome specialy Velma, he voice is beautiful but it is Adam Williams that has left a trace in my mind and I will always regret the only chance I had to talk to him that I let pass. Chicago, if you can find tickets, go see it.

Saw Chicago this week and wanted to share with the world that this show is brilliant. I'd never seen it before or knew anything about it and I was totally blown away. Sharon Millerchip is just too fantastic for words. I can't remember seeing such an amazing performance. She's an incredible talent. Glenn Butcher is my other favourite. I loved Chicago so much I just had to contribute. See Chicago- you'll love it!

I just wanted to contribute to your raves about Chicago. I saw it last Friday and it was amazing! Sharon Millerchips performance was incredible and the reviews have certainly picked up on that. She is soooo funny and what a voice. She also looked fantastic-really beautiful. Chelsea Gibb was very good also. She's come a long way (in my humble opinion) since I saw her do it two years ago. But, the new cast, ie. Sharon, Simon Burke and the wonderful Glenn Butcher, have really added spark to the show.

Well I saw Chicago today in Brisbane and was definitely NOT disappointed :) I'm going to have this production to my list of favourites.
The choreography was BRILLIANT - I have never seen dancers, or choreography of this standard - quite a credit to David, the choreographer & the cast.
Likewise, the vocalists were definitely up to scratch; a few performers that stood out were Simon Burke as 'Billy Flynn' - such charisma and charm - couldn't cast that role any better. Sharon Millerchip as 'Velma Kelly' - with her hair cut short (and her clothing too!) I hardly recognised her from my last encounter with her in Combo Fiasco. Boy can she dance! And act! And Sing! Top performer, and Chelsea Gibb who played 'Roxie Hart' didn't pale in comparison. I just have to say that I found her performance to be incredible. In her biography she mentions she graduated from WAAPA in 97 and this is her professional debut - cripes! You'd think that she was born on the boards - such stage presence, and what a voice. Obviously well trained :)
Although this was just a preview for the Brisbane production, I couldn't spot a fault and thoroughly enjoyed it - I think you could say I was "buzzing" after the show. I feel I'm just babbling here, but sue me - I'm still excited - its not everyday you see a show of this standard.
Got to say it again - the choreography for the show was incredible. And the dancers...pffft...girls, go for the perve session if nothing more! ;) Quite a fit cast if you know what I mean!
Being a muso, I have to say that the orchestra was just fabo! - great to see they were on the stage! The only disappointment I had with this show (and only having one thing to bitch about after a show is a first!) was the Matron 'Mama' Morton role. Having listened to the OLC I imagined her to be raunchy, an older version of Velma - instead Maria Mercedes was dressed in a pin-striped suit and sang her solo on the spot with little interaction with the cast. Not sure if this is how it's usually done, but I imagined Mama as someone that the prison gals would aspire to be like. Maria has an absolutely incredible voice - but didn't act or move in a raunchy manner, as I imagined from the recording.
On the other hand, 'Amos Hart' played by Glenn Butcher (the guy from Full Frontal) cracked me up!!! Its *exactly* how I imagined it to be performed - white gloves very effective. Couldn't believe what a voice he had too...must be all that vocal training on PlaySchool :)
Summing up, in comparison to the London Cast Recording, this Australian cast lives up to expectations, and maintains the West End standards. I just wish I could see it again and again, Georgia's rating - 10/10 (Only 2nd time Ive handed out that score!)

I SAW CHICAGO IN BRISBANE!!!! It was fantastic, almost better than the first time, and it had some of the best moments!

With almost no one left from Melbourne it was like seeing a new show, and it was stunning however unlike in Melbourne I thought the ensemble in All That Jazz was VERY weak, they didn't seem to be as sharp as they could have been -Sharon was fantastic a beautiful velma (oh yeah guys -that is a wig!) -she is short though! And what a voice! Chelsea stole the show her Roxie was a zillion times more with than her first amazing performances in Melbourne-she controlled the audience and character with such professionalism-she is going to be big! I was very disappointed in Simon Burke-he looks the part, but he mumbled a lot and quite a few of the jokes were lost on the audience (that and his interesting accent that fell in and out!), however he redeemed himself with the best rendition of we both reached for the gun-it was absolutely stunning he really got into it. I saw Maria Mercedes in Melbourne as Mama, and well she doesn't look the part (however I don't think leather and chains would help! -the suit thing is cool-) -but what a voice! Glen butcher was a beautiful Amos sucking the audience of every moment-easily as good if not better than Anthony weigh! I was fortunate enough to see Mary Sunshines understudy-SJ Hendry and well anyone who can sing that part is amazing!

My favourite moment in this production of the show was the Cell Block Tango-IT WAS AMAZING!!! So much better than any of the recordings! Especially the pop-Liz(Christina Tan) she fitted the character so well, and delivered the best of the lot! ( the weakens was the Hunyak-Uh-Uh- Nicci Hope) she was too forceful-BUT the cell block stole the show, and we had people applauding for ages after it was finished.

Generally however I didn't think the ensemble worked that well together (especially in ALL THAT JAZZ) they seemed to be working against each other (unlike in Melbourne).

The opening of Act 2 was also great, and after Velma was pushed back of stage on the ladder (at the start of Me and my baby) the audience were laughing and applauding so much Chelsea had to stop and take a heap of deep breaths waiting for the audience to settle!

OVERALL!!!
The leads were stunning but the ensemble lacked in All that jazz which was a huge Disappointment!I preferred the Melbourne ensemble
-Sharon was in my opinion almost as good as Caroline O'Connor-but didn't seem very comfortable dancing the HOT Honey RAG
-Simon Burke paled in John Diedrichs shadow
-Glen Butcher was a very different Amos-much funnier-but because of this some of the more serious moments became to comical-however I liked him better than Anthony
BUT I LOVED IT!!!!!!!

Nathan!
