Fellowship of the RingAuthor: J.R.R. TolkienSeries: Lord of the Rings Pages: 458 Rating: 4.5/5 Read: 1 I liked this book. From Tom Bombadil to the Fatty Bulger. To tell you the truth, I've watched the movie before I read the books, but you know what, the movie really took out a lot of characters and things. I thought the book was great to read though, and the movie was brilliantly after it. I mean, wonderful. Bilbo celebrates his 111th birthday party, and everyone is invited. In secret, expect Frodo his nephew and Gandalf the Grey, he actually plans to vanish and leave to Rivendell. When Bilbo leaves, Frodo finds himself with the Ring, the Ring that Bilbo "won" from his previous adventure (The Hobbit). Gandalf tells Frodo about the danger of the ring, and tells Frodo that he will have to leave soon. Soon after, Gandalf leaves, and anxiously waiting for his return, he and Sam and Merry hear about black riders on black horses searching for him. That night, they leave. Finding Pippin, meeting Tom Bombadil, and escaping the black riders in the forest, they get to a village and find Strider. He takes them on the way to Rivendell. On the way, the black riders reach them. The ring slips onto Frodo's finger, and he can see their faces. They stab him in the shoulder, and he is sick, and on an elf's horse, he is taken to Rivendell. He crosses the river which floods behind him, and blacks out. He wakes up in a bed, Gandalf to his side. He and everyone, even Bilbo were in Rivendell. When he recovered, there was a council meeting, and this meeting decided the fate of Frodo. Learning that someone had to take the ring to Mordor, he stands up and volunteers. Sam follows. Merry and Pippin insisted to go. Aragorn and Gandalf go with them. And Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir are appointed to go. Will they get to Mordor and save the world? Of course, if you love fantasy, you're going to love this book. XP I admit, a lot of descriptions and dialogues were just ramblings and boring. Date: September 14, 2005 |
