PaDS:
Rest In Peace?
With the Christmas production drifting into fond(ish) memory and rehearsals for the next yet to begin, PaDS is – as we AmDram folk like to say – resting. That’s not to say that nothing is happening. However peaceful it may seem on the surface, like the proverbial swan, there is much furious PaDdling beneath. For instance, our next production - the J B Priestley classic, An Inspector Calls (18th 19th and 20th May) - has already been cast. According to Director Gill Cox, casting was exceptionally difficult because of the wealth of new acting talent that turned up to audition, particularly in the younger male category. Fortunately for me, competition in the elderly male (short, balding, bumptious, overweight) category remains somewhat less intense! Rehearsals start at the end of February and - for the time being - Gill looks supremely calm and confident. Watch this space for an exclusive exposé of backstage drama and intrigue as the plot thickens. Also in the planning stage, is another of the ever-popular informal PaDS events of readings etc, reinforced by food and drinks. Last year we had an amorous evening for St Valentines and a spine-chilling Halloween. This year, the (as yet untitled) event is scheduled for April 1st and is being organised by Pauline Foreman. She refuses to reveal whether there will be any foolish undertones. I’ll see what I can find out for next month! Jack Burgess, Painswick Dramatic Society |
