Embrace the spirit of love.

The Adventures of Paisley Blue

Today we had our Christmas Dinner. Angel and Butch, Angel's sister and niece, Angel's mother, Fairygirl, Michael and I were all there. While the meal was being prepared, we got a phone call from Smartalek. He was ready to come home.

He ran away from home December 11th so he'd been gone, what, about two weeks or so? All this time Angel had been worried about him, missing him -- I think we all had been, except it was mixed with anger because he stole something valuable from each of us before he left. Personally, I lost my purple GameBoy that CB and I had purchased at the same time CB got his laptop. That GameBoy was more than just a toy to me... it was a connection with a happier time.

It's kind of weird how it worked out but Smartalek was there for just about an hour -- long enough to eat some Christmas dinner, take a shower, and open a gift. Then the police arrived and put him in cuffs. Thankfully, the boy did not try to run. That would have made it much more traumatic for everyone.

Later, Michael, Butch, Angel's mother, and I tried to play a game of Pinochle. Angel was sitting behind me looking at my cards, telling me what to do and not do. At first I felt like just giving her my hand and saying Would you rather play? I was not comfortable with her doing that, and I could also see that it was making Michael upset. He repeatedly asked her to not help me, and it really wasn't fair.

Finally he blew up and yelled at her. I'm not saying it's right but I understand why he did it. That ended the game. Everyone separated into their little corners and things were tense for a while.

Later, Michael's long-time friend, whom I will call Mechanic, came over and Michael and I ended up going out to a bar with him. We ended up at the SeaWolf on Capitol Hill where they happened to be doing karaoke. Mechanic and Michael did a duet, "Somewhere Out There," then I sang "Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams. Michael sang "The Thunder Rolls" by Garth Brooks, and I did "She's Got You" by Patsy Cline. During my second number I noticed everyone in the bar was very quiet, and at the end, they erupted in applause. People came up and hugged me, and several congratulated me on a good job. Wow! It rocked!

Later as Michael and I were getting ready for bed, he handed me some money for lunch tomorrow and I said thank you. He said, Well, we're a team! I could've cried right then and there, but I know he doesn't like mushy stuff, so I said, Yes, we are.

As we were going to sleep, I had my arm around him because he was feeling kinda woozy. We laid in spoons awhile but he needed to sleep on his other side so he faced me and I listened as his breathing became more steady. I was sleepier and sleepier, and just before I fell asleep, he pulled me a little closer to him, and I fell asleep feeling his arm holding me just as I was holding him, and I couldn't have been happier.

Merry Christmas! Happy Yule!
