The Adventures of Paisley Blue
The stress generated by my sister's reaction of my parents wanting to move back into Fort Smith took its toll. Wednesday evening my father drove himself to the emergency room with chest pains. At first the doctors could not say whether or not he had suffered another heart attack, so they admitted him for observation. By the next afternoon, he was released on stronger doses of nitroglycerin. The hours in the emergency room, and the night that I spent with my mother at her house, were hard on me emotionally but I am glad I was there for her. I was worried about Dad, so I KNOW she was, too.

I did get called into work by the first temp agency I had signed up with... to stuff envelopes. It was only for one day, but I'm not going to turn down the money! The folks I worked with on the project were nice, easy to get along with, and generally hard working. However, it occurred to me that if the temp agency had put me and the other older gal on this assignment last Monday instead of the two gals who were still wet behind the ears... we would have had the job completed on time. Instead, the young, cute, just-out-of-high-school gals were sent on this job. On one particular task that took me less than a half hour to do, they had talked about how it had taken them hours to do the same thing a few days earlier. I returned home just absolutely incredulous. Is youth that important in our culture? Is this why I got all those temp jobs when I was eighteen?

Today I came up with the idea that I would like to try college again. I signed up once before but it was just one year after my stroke, and I was not ready for it. I believe I could handle the classes and the responsibility and everything now. CB has been absolutely supportive of the whole idea which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So now I am going to be investigating what is being offered at the local college next semester, the possibilties of financial aid, and those kind of subjects.

Overall, today I am feeling good, feeling optimistic and happy and hopeful about the future. I love the long talks and bonding that CB and I have been doing lately. Mmmm, and you shoulda tasted his fried chicken last night!!! I can't believe it's the first time he ever tried frying chicken... I am absolutely sure that I am the luckiest gal in the world!
