Announcing a Shadow Cabinet with a Difference…
Green Party Unveils Policy Advocates
Vancouver, BC - Leader Adriane Carr announced the Green Party's team of policy Advocates in preparation for becoming the next official opposition in BC. The announcement occurred at the Green Party's election headquarters at 2404 Main Street with a number of the Advocates on hand to field questions from the media.
The Advocate Team includes 18 Green Party MLA candidates from ridings all over the province. They range in age from 27-year-old Rob LaBelle (Health & Wellness) to 72-year-old Betty Krawczyk (Justice; Seniors), represent diverse political backgrounds including Conservatives, Liberals, and NDP, and come from across the socio-economic spectrum. The Advocate Team is equally gender-balanced with 9 men and 9 women holding positions. (Click here for a complete list of advocates, with biographical information).
In introducing the Advocate Team, Carr stated "I'm proud to present a team of candidates that has such enormous breadth of experience and personal dedication to finding solutions to the full range of issues of importance to British Columbians--a healthy economy, good government and improving our quality of life."
When asked why the party had chosen an Advocate Team instead of more traditional "critic" roles, Carr stated, "It is time for government to move away from the confrontation and adversarial politics that have defined the last few decades in BC. The role of opposition is not just to criticize: we must learn to praise government when it makes good decisions and offer alternatives when they do not. Ultimately it's time to ensure that government, first and foremost, is providing solutions that, first and foremost, serve the interests of citizens."
The Green Party of BC was founded in 1983 as the first Green Party in North America. The party has been gaining momentum in the lead up to the provincial election, most recently with the release of the Green Book and through the nomination of strong local candidates. Green parties are active in 80 countries, hold seats in 29 national parliaments, and are part of coalition governments in Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Slovenia and Mexico.
The Comox Valley Green Party proudly announces that its candidate for MLA for the Comox Valley is PAM MUNROE.
Pam Munroe moved to Courtenay with her husband Don in March 2000 from Calgary, Alberta where she was involved with the Alberta Greens for 10 years as the chief financial officer for the party. While in Calgary Pam was employed as the financial manager for a medium size oil & gas company and just before her early retirement from that company, took on the position of environment coordinator. Since moving to the Comox Valley Pam has volunteered with the Comox Valley Land Trust, the Comox Valley Nursing Centre and the Courtenay Youth Music Centre. She made a strong showing for the Green Party of Canada in the November 2000 federal election and is looking forward to taking on the Liberals in the Comox Valley.
The Green Party of British Columbia has recently released its comprehensive platform--GREEN BOOK 2001--which flows from three streams: 1) Good Government; 2) Stimulating BC's Economy; and 3) Improving Quality of Life.
