What Phyl Does for a Living
For many years, Phyl has worked as a records and data management specialist. This experience has encompassed everything from database cleanup and file cataloging to office cleanup, organizing office moves, and labeling folders! These records projects have given Phyl many perspectives on each industry she was involved in: oil, insurance, and brewing.

Oil Industry Experience
Most of the oil industry records/data projects were done as a contractor with Sigma Explorations Inc., a geophysical data provider in Calgary, the heart of western Canada's oil industry. Sigma's clients frequently needed help with data acquisition or archiving projects, so when this need arose, Phyl would be contracted to do whatever was needed.
One major client was Talisman Energy. Phyl assisted Talisman in incorporating often large amounts of seismic data into their system. This involved database cleanup as well as cataloging seismic sections for off-site storage. The projects also frequently involved helping to arrange large-scale office moves as new companies were acquired and absorbed into Talisman.
Other Sigma clients were Gulf Canada and Mark Resources. Phyl has also done data management projects with Keep Data Control and Atco Resources.
Insurance Industry Experience
Phyl has done three small data management projects for Manulife Financial. The first involved cataloging several thousand claims, and the second project was to organize a departmental library. In addition, Phyl did a similar cataloging project for Zurich Insurance, whose Group insurance division had been acquired by Manulife.
Brewing Industry Experience
Phyl has worked on a large scale records management project for Molson Canada, cataloging corporate records in the company-wide database. These records included accounting, insurance policies and claims, legal contracts and legal analyses of promotional materials, personnel files, shipping records, and construction records.
