Peninsula Bands: Peninsula Bands was started in 2003 at Mount Erin Secondary College by Jamie Wall
as a project in Web Page Authoring. It started off as being a Gig Guide, showing people where, and
when Gigs were happening around the Peninsula.
The website was pretty crappy, as Jamie didnt know much about Websites, so thats
where i came
in. I know i'm crap at making Websites as well, but i think you could even ask him and he would say
that mine are at least are bit better.
I guess you could say i 'employed' Terry i think it was late May/early June, as
we needed someone
who was a good writer. He did a couple of Interviews with some Band members and a couple of
reviews and i really like what he could do, and he has been in it from there.
So the site continued to be a Local Gig Guide all the way up until June 2004.
Jamie finally got the
idea that we would start holding our own shows, and without telling me emailed Toby from the 21st
Century about having them in the Pelly Bar. Surprisingly, one day i logged into my account and there
was an email back from Toby saying we could hold it there, he just wanted more
details.
So suddenly Jamie and I scurried around and came together with 6 of the
Peninsula's finest Bands;
X25, Singleton, Filmore, Shooting Blanks, Famous By Association, and the
ever-loved Left Right Out.
We held our first show on the 30th of June 2004 at the Pelly Bar and it was a
HUGE success. The
bands all played absolutely unreal, the timing was perfect, and everyone was
happy.
The next night i received an email back from Toby saying what a huge success the
show was and
what-not, and he asked us to come in for a meeting with some people from different companies that
help out the community, so we could put on regular shows at the 21st. What a
thrill.
Our main objective in this whole thing is to let the fan base of our Local Bands
grow in the Mornington
Peninsula, and then the word of mouth would spread from person to person about how good these Bands
are, and then eventually we 'hope' we will be getting demands for shows in Melbourne, and then grow
further and further until these Bands are the real thing. Basically we just want to help our friends do
what they do best and get somewhere in this new, evolved musical world.
