Filmore Interview:
Filmore are the babies of the local scene, but that hasn't made a difference to what they do.
They're an energetic rock band with killer guitar riffs, smooth drumbeats and a unique style
that has made their short life in the scene go very fast. Influences ranging from Metallica to
Less Than Jake to Incubus, their diverse musical tastes shine through into their music. Already
with tracks on Ballads By The Bay 2 and countless shows under their belt, Filmore show no
signs of slowing down. I caught up with their drummer Tom Bromwich to discuss the band and
his love for other men.
TA: Terry Appleby
TB: Tom Bromwich
TA: How are you today?
TB: Yeah I'm good man, having a pretty good week.
TA: Filmore were pretty
much unknown a few months ago, you shot up out of nowhere, how
did the band come about?
TB: Well, it all happened pretty damn fast. Jamie and Laz (the two guitarists)
started getting
a few song ideas together over the Christmas holidays last year, and decided to start a band. Laz
came up to Tent (Tom Camp, Bass) at school one day and we organised to get together and have
a jam and work on those songs. A couple of practices later Josh from P.O.Y. came and heard us
jam and gave us the gig at Hastings Day, and organised us to be on Ballads 2.
TA: You're a reasonably young
band on the scene, how does hat effect you as far as getting gigs
and such?
TB: Well it hasn't been too hard, because we made some good mates with some of
the other
bands from around here (FBA, P.O.Y.) and we have played gigs with them. We have just been
trying to get some more exposure because hardly anybody has heard us play live
before.
TA: What inspires the band to
create music?
TB: Ohh god... umm... we all want to get laid and we saw this as an easy way to
pick up chicks.
TA: The rumour on the street is
that our own Jamie is a bit of a man-whore; do you plan on
taking over that role?
TB: Haha nah, that's definitely his undisputed title... well you know everyone
needs a hobby.
TA: What first got you into
music?
TB: My old man. He had these old Led Zeppelin and AC/DC records at home so that
made me
want to do it i think... other than that i wanted to get laid.
TA: Well you seem like the kind
of guy that doesn't get laid, sorry.
TB: So my plan hasn't worked too well... not much I can do about that... I hope
my girlfriend
doesn't read this.
TA: Ok stepping away from the
virgin jokes, what do you do in your spare time?
TB: I skate and snake board when I can and I surf sometimes... the rest of the
time I just hang
out with my mates and Louise (g/f).
TA: Here's the question on
everyone's lips, have you ever found yourself attracted to another man?
TB: Well to be honest... no you dickhead, you think I'm going to say yes to
that?
TA: Well you never know with
people like you. Anyway, finally, what does the future hold for you
and Filmore?
TB: Hopefully some more good gigs and a recording at the end of the year. From
there we're all
going to keep on doing the things we normally do, playing music and making fools of ourselves,
maybe we'll make it somewhere with out music, who knows? We can only hope.
