The 2nd Massachusetts Infantry
at Beverly Ford (Brandy Station), VA
9 June, 1863

The Battle of Brandy Station was the largest clash of cavalry ever fought on North American soil, pitting Alfred Pleasanton's 11,000 troopers against the indomitable J.E.B. Stuart (whose force totalled about 9,500). The 2nd Massachusetts Infantry was one of the lucky infantry units chosen to take part in the battle, in the action at Beverly Ford, under the command of BG John Buford.
