BRIMS Museum Layout Opens
Science will have the official opening of the permanent transportation exhibit featuring a model train layout on Saturday, March 7th from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Part of the closing events of the Warren County Bicentennial celebration, the 13 foot by 30 foot exhibit features an HO scale layout created by the museum staff, members of the sHOw MODULAR MODEL RAILROAD CLUB and community volunteers. Over 700 hours of labor were donated to design the layout, constuct benchwork, lay roadbed and track and to make buildings and scenery for one of the largest push-button operated model railroads in the country. Over 100 structures, 500 trees and shrubs, six tunnel portals and six bridges provide a convincing environment for the trains. Several vignettes of Bowling Green, Kentucky including the Corvette Museum, Interstate 65 overpass, Fountain Square Park and buildings around the square. The Warren County Courthouse, the classic Louisville & Nashville passenger depot and a working feed mill, bottled gas company, concrete block company and a quarry will be of particular interest to residents of the area. Be sure to visit this display. A list of all who worked on this project along with photographs and our club brochure have been submitted to the Bicentennial committee for inclusion in the time capsule to be buried Saturday, March 7th, 1998. |
