The most famous ship of World War II, USS Enterprise
For nearly six months, from December 7th, 1941, to May 8th, 1942, the United States Navy and military forces suffered defeat after defeat. Up until April 18, 1942, the American public read about heroic last stands at Corregidor, the heroic last battle of USS Houston in Sunda Straits, daring raids by Admiral Halsey with his carriers. But on April 18, Colonel Jimmy Doolittle gave the American people something to cheer about when he bomber Japan. His raid also set the stage for the most important battle of World War II, Midway.
