Wonderful website. My great uncle John Bartholomew enlisted in Co. C 24th IA Infantry on 8/81862 and died in Helena AR on 17 Nov 1862. I am interested in learning anthing I could about him. His widow was Caroline (Whisler) Bartholomew and he was born in 1835. At the time of his enlistment he was living in Tipton, IA.
Thank you very much.

My great grandfather was a member of the 24th or 27th Regiment, Company "B", Iowas Volunteers. His name was William G. Coppernoll, and was a corporal when discharged at the end of the war. His company commander's name was Capt. S.W. Hemenways. This is the
information I have from his discharge papers. I also have his promotion papers to Corporal while he was in Mississippi. I can't read the regiment's number too well so it might be either one but looks like 24. Can you tell me anything else from your record
or where I can go to find out more about where he actually fought for the three years he was in the Iowa Volunteers? Thanks Jerry Scott in Washington, DC

assume he may have been in this infantry. Thank you for all the information you have provided about the Infantry, it was very interesting.

Winterset 2000 Civil War Reenactment #4
Winterset, Iowa... October 13, 14 and 15th, 2000. It has been asked
about! It has been talked about! NOW IT'S BACK!! The most
talked about event in years is back... Our 4th Civil War Reenactment. At
the Cedar Creek Battle Field in the most beautiful river valley
in the Midwest. VOTED MOST REALISTIC BATTLEFIELD IN THE ENTIRE MIDWEST!
Over 3,000 feet of trenches, earth works
and redoubts. Three major battles and one non spectator early dawn battle
planned. All amenities provided. All Sutlers and Units must
contact us for registration and info.. Battlefield is located just N.E. of
Winterset, IA off of Highways 169 and 92. If you want realism and
the civil war experience that other reenactments lack, Winterset, Iowa is
the place to pitch your tent. For additional information please
contact Capt. JOJO LETO. 121 E Lane #12 Winterset, IA 50273 Phone
515-224-8138 day, 515-462-4455 evenings and weekends... or
via E-mail at captjoejoe@uswest.net OR see our web page
This Spring April 7th - 9th, 2000 The 39th Iowa Infantry is planning a Civil War Reenactment like no
other. What is living out of your haversack... It's quite an experience!!! Not a festival and surely not a
spectator event. (( WHAT YOU CARRY IN ON YOUR BACK IS WHAT YOU WILL BE USING
ALL WEEKEND..)) Civil War reenactors have for too long been used by festivals and events to
basically promote towns and cities, popcorn, festivals and ice cream socials and every other kind of
spectator event. As usual commercialization, is the key.. But it's time for a CHANGE... A change for
the better... When You tell people about your hobby you say.. And it's just like being back in time..
Really, is that true???? Is it really like all that ??? Winterset's ((spring)) event is going to be different...
How different depends on You... the Captains, Sergeants, Corporals, and Ladies... We want the
experience of the 19th century soldier all weekend long... No outside intrusions that ruin the
experience!
We want Winterset to be the Mecca of reenacting in the 21st century... We hope it will be the norm
and not the exception ..
The time has come for Winterset's ((EVENT)) to smash the idea of little events in Iowa forever!!!

i thought your site would be worth a visit until i read yor smartass question about how many confederate soldiers does it take to win a war.
wanted information on the 26th iowa but will leave instead. my gg grandfather fought with distinction at chikamauga 28th ala. as a combat veteran myself i revere all fallen soldiers. do yourself a favor and lose the question.
