...to be updated shortly after August 28, 2001. Check back here soon! Tourney Cheers Post-game, we cheer for the team we played as a reflection of the spirit of the game - plus we always get a cheer back. For Your First Tournament What to expect, and how to prepare. Huck Finn- St. Louis, MO March 3-4, 2001 (???) Wrap up: We took 7 girls to this tournament thanks to Cathy Cuny! We must play savage whenever Natalie goes, wouldn't want her to get too used to subbing. Saturday: WuWu kicked our ass. We made a decent attempt at playing savage against the A team. They ended up winning the tournament. Nice tall girl was there hucking handler but Felice kept it interesting. We also picked up two great pick-ups from Chicago---Rachel and Sasha. These girls rocked all day long. Second game was against Iowa? Some team. We got beat but we were doing better. Third game was against KU. This was a great game. It was hard fought but KU ended up pulling it off. Some really great playing by all the girls. Last game we came in tired and the old ladies came off a bye. They were really nice and tried to be helpful. They could obviously out throw us and the younger St. Louis Reunion players still had legs. Still it was a decent fight. We were just too tired. That eliminated us from second day play, which was probably better considering the condition of our players. We played our hearts out in St. Louis and that KU game was great. High Tide - Savannah, GA March 19-23, 2001 Savannah Update Northern Illinois Wrap-Up/Rant:Don't host a co-ed tournament and then not bring a Co-ed team yourself. Don't host a co-ed tournament and then not care when none of the teams bring women. Don't put women in the position of being a burden to their team. That is so shitty! As soon as it was evident that there were not enough women, you call a captain's meeting and re-distribute the supply that is there. If they don't want to play "hat", they don't have to play. There are plenty of men's tournaments out there. Also, you can be the damnest cutest boys on the planet but you still have to show up on time to host your own tournament. Kick that bootie call out of bed and get to the fields early. That being said....Sunday was awesome. Great games against Columbia and Illinois Wesylean (who have improved volumes!). Saturday was ridiculously, absurdly windy. Like 45mph winds windy. So playing was more like soccer than Ultimate. Especially with our air bounce happy crew. It was a damn long day. However, the night was outstanding. We gorged on pizza, veggies, junk food, chocolate cak (i.e. feast) compliments of Chris Jones' parents. It was a great meal in a beautiful house and we awoke to a nice big breakfast as well. Ultimate players are obviously such great people because they have great parents! We love our player's parents. Sectionals Wrap-up:After the awesome attendance at High Tide, we ultimated everyone out. It takes a lot of commitment to be able to keep up with a schedule like this when you play savage nearly every tournament. All the same we took 7 awesome ladies to Purdue. It was gale-force wind on Saturday and we used it to our advantage.. We played defensively smart Ultimate all day. This was known as the two-thirds rule. Every time the disc made it 2/3 of the way up the field and was turned by the wind....we would huck it back down field. We liked to refer to this little maneuver as not cruel but savage. We played U of I first after a 1st round bye due to the long drive from Peoria. Went up 5-6 against Rouge. Yeah savage play! We kept up great attitudes as we then took on Chicago. We went up 4-5 against Purdue. Great game as well. We forefitted to Notre Dame as feet were no longer with us. Never ever ever buy cheap cleats. Ever. Saturday night...pigged out, swam and chilled courtesy of Trish's parents and uncle and aunt. Played the highly succesful game of "I'm taking a.......... to a tournament". See the final result (or as much as I can remember). Slept hard. Sunday we came on strong but the wind was not with us. Chicago kept us in the single digits as they went to 13. At this point we had one player playing without cleats but with open bleeding feet blisters. See above note about cheap cleats. Indiana took pity on us and we only played a game to 9. It was decidely all them. Due to the feet situation and the lack of subs, we forefitted our last game to Northwestern. Everyone went to watch the boys beat NIU for the last regionals bid or home to do do homework. Regionals - Ohio State University April 29-30, 2001 Women did not attend. Men went 6-15 against OSU Leadbelly, 7-15 against Dayton Ghetto Force and had a hearwrenching loss to Case Western Gobies. At one point, Bradley was up 13-7 or so and ended up losing 15-13. Subs matter! Everyone matters! Whether you are the best player on the team or just learning. Even the best people need breaks. |
