A Specimen of the Tables or Book of Enoch

(Pagesgem Bacap Laffos- actually only the Pagesgem table!)

*** This Table can also be downloaded here in .xls, .doc, or .txt format. The quality of the original copy was compromised, and hence many of the spaces are filled with ?'s. Wherever possible, I have not hazarded a guess at what the letter is, and where I have, has been written in italic lettering. Also in italic are letters and numbers which are seemingly out of place ***

This table is part of the Book of Enoch (also called the Liber Loagaeth) dictated to Dee and Kelley, from which the Enochian texts, such as the Calls, were derived. This exact table is from Meric Casaubon's Ture and Faithful... and is in fact not an exactly faithful copy, as shall be demonstrated later. After looking at this table, I am sure that the reader now has a firmer grasp on the complexity of the system which Dee had to deal with. Next, consider that this is only one of the 48 tables of (generally) 2401 (49x49) letters and numbers, which would total 117649 characters! The reality of the tables is that the later tables only have letters in every other cell, but none the less, we are still talking about a large amount of letters! If one is to consider the notion that Kelley was pulling the wool over Dee's eyes, one must consider the remarkable memory that Kelley would need to have possessed just to be able to remember the letters and numbers in there correct order, let alone be able to recall any single one from any table at random!

To demonstrate the beauty in the construction of the table, we need to further dissect the table from it's total 49x49 state. The .xls file is best for this purpose. Each corner has a 7x7 table which is similar in construction to the other corners. They are each purely numbers, and contain two different sets of numbers placed in a common structure. The Top Left (North West, NW) corner and the Bottom Right (SE) 7x7's contain the numbers 1-7 and are vertical mirrors of each other. The other two (NE & SW) contain the numbers 2-8 and are exact copies of each other. View any one of these 7x7's, and the structure becomes evident quite quickly. These, like magic squares, would be very easy to create for a man off Dee's calibre of Mathematics. Strangely enough, this is the only table that has numbers in it.

In the centre, as marked out, is a circle which nestles itself exactly within the central 9 (3x3) smaller 7x7 tables. Around the inside of this ring is a circle of numbers- this time from 1 to 9. To be noted here is the o and e in the bottom left part of the circle which should be 8 and 9 to keep the pattern. This is in fact a transcribing error on the behalf of Casaubon.

Inside this circle is a cornerless square of the numbers 1-7 in three rows, running anti-clockwise. Again, the pattern isn't complete. The F and A at the top right corner next to the two 4's should be 3's. The pattern for these is best described below:

Between these two is a filler pattern of the combination of letters BAGAFAI (or it could be read as any combination of these i.e. backwards, BAGAFAI, AGAFAIB, GAFAIBA etc.) This is repeated in a seemingly chaotic fashion, but the pattern of these letters is evident. In some places, the F is replaced with an E- possibly another transcribing error, possibly not. This word, and any of it's combinations does not appear in any Enochian dictionary. It covers the same pattern as the names of the Tabula Collecta 49 Angelorum Bonorum, although it does not appear in it, or in the Heptarchia Mystica as far as I can see.

At the heart of the table is a patterned central 7x7 table. In a star (Like the English Flag, the Union Jack) format is the name BORNOGO, which is the name of a Prince associated with Sol (the Sun). This name is derived from the Tabula Collecta 49 Angelorum Bonorum, and is the second name generated from that table.

The rest of the table is filled with letters seemingly chaotically. This is where the Enochian Texts supposedly reside, although I have yet to come across any decent evidence as to this fact. Although a few Enochian words appear within the square, the texts were not read straight across any of the lines. Generally, Kelley would dictated positions which the angels point to on a similar table within the shewstone. This was done in a similar fashion to a road map, i.e. A4, which would contain the letter or number which was to be used. Certainly a long process to undertake, but the angels would have it no other way. When Dee asked for an easier way, the angels departed in a huff. Another problem was that although Dee knew the letters, Kelley didn't, and so couldn't just rifle them off. In fact, the angels scalded Dee a few days after getting the letters for not being able to used Enochian without a reference!

If, in fact there is a structure underlying the masses of letters, Dee probably took it to the grave with him, since there is no record of it in any of his diaries, nor has there been any great inroads to deciphering any tables. There are claims that a computer has managed to decode the entire Liber Logaeth, but the claims are held in differing credibilities. I am currently attempting such a mammoth feat- which I am posting in my Liber Loagaeth section. I fear, however, that such a task will take longer than I have in my short life, so I hope that what I manage will be the stepping stone for others.
