Current Unit: Night Sky Observation

Fri 8/29
1. Discuss grading policy.
2. Make quadrant, pinhole protractor and nocturnal from "Night time Sky Observation #1" - observation is due Tue 9/9.

Wed 9/3
1. Do "Celestial Coordinates" #1-11 - these are guided notes, put in notebook
2. Make Uncle Al's Sky Wheel and do "Constructing and Using a Star Map" - due next class
3. Begin "Using a Planisphere" - Use Uncle Al's Sky Wheel, the SC001 Constellation Chart (for #16-19), and "Star Journey" (for #20) due at the end of next class

Fri 9/5

1. "Searching for Supernovae" - In Hands-On Universe Book 3, do "Techniques for Finding a Supernova Unit" (p. 5-9) and "Discover a Supernova Unit" (p. 10-15). You will be using image processing software to manipulate actual images containing supernovae.
2. Supernova Light Curves - In Hands-On Universe Book 5: Measuring Brightness, do p. 20-26 and read p. 27-31. You will be using light curves to classify supernova as Type I or II.
3. Print out a color set of these images by Mon Mar. 15 - these will be used in a performance assessment.
