Temporary home for Perry library opens this morning By DOUG STALEY Independent Staff Writer A temporary location for the Perry Heights Branch of the Stark County District Library will open at 10 a.m. today, nearly four months after the original branch was destroyed by an arson fire. A June blaze gutted the 8,000-square-foot branch near Perry Stadium on 13th Street Southwest. It caused an estimated $2 million in damage. Investigators later determined the early-morning fire was the work of an arsonist, but no arrests have been made. Located in a strip shopping mall in the 4000 block of Lincoln Way E., the facility will serve as a temporary site until a permanent branch is constructed, according to library officials. The library is committed to building a new state-of-the-art library in Perry Township and continues to search for a permanent site for the branch, said Kent Oliver, the librarys executive director. The transitional site will provide access to a wide variety of resources available through the county library system. Insurance is paying for most of the renovations to the former carpet store. The library district is leasing the building. Hours for the temporary facility are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The branch will be closed Sundays. For more information, contact Edlyn Theiss, the librarys associate director for branch services, at 330-452-0665.
