Industrial enterprises Report of the students from Linguistic Gymnasium Ulan-Ude Buryatia, Russia <saian@mail.ru>

Ulan-Ude is the political, cultural and industrial center of Buryatia. It has a distinctive feature: small in population city has a varied industry. There are a lot of industrial enterprises in Ulan-Ude, which develop our economy. 

There are foodstuff, clothes footwear, machine building and metalwork, timber industry construction, transport and communication services, trade and services, fuel-power complex, tourism, science and information culture, medicine, financial market, mass-media industry in our republic. And in Ulan-Ude different branches of the national economy have been introduced. The Ulan-Ude aircraft plant produces up-to-date airplanes and helicopters. The Ship-building plant is famous for vessels for the rivers of Siberia. The Ulan-Ude Steel-bridge association receives orders from the Russian Federation and abroad. Engineering industry, energetics, food processing, textile and glass industries. Aircraft, river-going vessels, powerful truck cranes, electric motors, instruments, building materials, fabrics, knitwear, household goods - this is a far incomplete list of goods Ulan-Ude's enterprises produce.

In 1997-98 our industrial income decreased and many enterprises bankrupted. But in 1999 the industrial output increased till 8 % more. It should be said that gradually and confidently we get out of crisis.

The Best Ulan-Ude Enterprises

In November 1999 The World Week Of Quality chose  products of Buryatia, some of them are from Ulan-Ude. 

1) There is ''Amta", a joint stock company which makes the confectionery of more than 450 types. "AMTA" is one of the biggest producer of sweets in East Siberia. It is the only manufacturer of the cedar nuts sweets. It uses about 400 kinds of raw materials. Every year this enterprise has about 20 % of new products. "AMTA" has got different awards: "The Flame Of Birmingham" (1995) - for the successful economical development and survival in the situation of economical crisis; "The Leader of Russian Economic" (1996-1997) and it got into the team of the leading enterprises of Russia. It is very popular and people admire our factory's goods.
2) "Livona" JSC, which is one of the oldest factories in our republic, and "Baikalfarm" JSC manufacture alcoholic drinks; These companies have various assortment.
3) "Buryatkhlebprom" JSC bakes bread and produces beer "Stimul"; 
4) "The Ulan-Ude Pasta Plant" JSC makes pasta "Makbur";
5) "Ulan-Udenskaya Tonkosukonnaya Manufactura" JSC makes wool, clothes production, wool processing. All the products have unique features. They process wool according to the world standard's requirements;
6) "Buryatmyasoprom" JSC provides meat and meat products and sausage;
7) "Talan" JSC manufactures hams.
All these companies became the best because they have the best modern equipment. Due to this fact, companies have a chance to make the volume of their production higher. In these companies professionals and experts work.

Today our town lives in a new business rhythm: we have big wholesale firms working in a wide sphere of supply and sale of goods of all kinds. At present the leaders in the market of Ulan-Ude are the companies: "Titan", "Impulse", "Slavia-tech", JSC "Buryatoilproduct", commercial bank "Baikalbank"
The citizens of Ulan-Ude are friendly and hospitable. They are interested in how the citizens of Darkhan, Anyang, Yamagata, Rumoi,  Chang-Chun, Manzchuria, Taibay live, work and study and have a rest. These cities have become twin-cities of Ulan-Ude.
