Connecting Math: Just for Fun #5
1. A tractor doubles its ploughed surface of field every day. In how many days will the tractor finish the field if after 6 days of work it finished half of it?

After 7 days because if in the 6th day it ploughed half of the field, in the next day, working double it will finish it.

Ionut Trif, 5th grade
2. One of the 7 numbers that you will see must be eliminated because it doesn't respect the rule. What is the number?

83; 73; 69; 12; 96; 37; 38.

12 because the other numbers are written "in mirror"!

3. Grandpa has 7 kg of grain and for a weighing he has a 1 kg weight. How can grandpa separate 3 kg of grain using only one weighing?

He balances the scales with the grain that he has, putting the 1 kg weight on one of the scales.

4. A snail climbs on a tree 3 m every day and it slides 2 m at night. How many days does it need for climbing the top of the 10 m tall tree?

It needs 8 days because the last day it doesn't slide any more.
