WHAT MATHEMATICS MEANS TO ME

Hello to our Math Friends!

The following story describes the Math Collage created by Meg Marino's second grade class from Project HEART, Hawaiian Elementary Academy of Research and Technology. The students underlined math words within their story. Please see the attached jpeg picture of the Math Collage.

WHAT MATHEMATICS MEANS TO ME

We made our collage in the shape of a plane because we are learning about aerospace and aeronautics in science.  Scientists use math when they calculate rocket launch time and its height and distance from the earth.  There are many numbers on an airplane's control panel that the pilot uses.  We included pictures of watches and clocks because we are learning to tell time.  We collect Beanie Babies and Pokémon cards.  We count them and compare to see who has the most.  The numbers on our cameras show how many pictures we have taken.  Our phones have numbers we use to dial family and friends.

Math programs on our computers make learning math fun.  We put the number two on our collage to show we are in second grade.  We are excited about the year 2000; the New Millennium
