![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I believe the giant pandas are one one of the most beautiful and amazing animals on the planet. Unfortunately, they are also one of most endangered of all animals, and practically extinct. That is why we have to stand together to work for the pandas and keep them alive for many generations to come. Pandas can become very large animals. Pandas can be close to 5 feet long and usually weight about 200 pounds, much more than me! Some can way TWICE that, but very rarely. Wild giant pandas live in China. They are found in bamboo forests in the mountains of western China. It is very hard to see pandas in the wild for they live in very dense forests very far out of reach of people. "Giant pandas look like fun." Trust me, I wouldn't play with them if I were you. Although they look very cuddly and sweet like a teddy bear, they can also harm people extremely easily. The pandas' hair is actually not soft at all, but very stiff and thick. They do have flexible bodies, though. The bones of pandas are also quite heavy. No one knows why, for they are twice as heavy as most bones for an animal that size would be. BAMBOO. Obviously as key to the life of the panda. Very close to 100% of ALL the food pandas eat is bamboo. Pandas usually spend about 16 hours a day eating. When they don't eat, they sleep. Exciting isn't it? In a total year, a panda will eat about 5 TONS of bamboo (10,000 lbs). Also, like most bears, pandas seem to like honey as well. They also eat meat when they can. But mainly, bamboo is the source of their food. Think about you and I eating ONE type of food only. I wouldn't like it. |
